Chocolate Chip Day

Chocolate Chip Day

Chocolate Chip Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated annually on May 15th. As the name suggests, the holiday is all about celebrating chocolate chips, which are small pieces of chocolate that are often used as an ingredient in baking.

Chocolate chips were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s. Wakefield ran the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts and was looking for a way to make chocolate cookies that would not completely melt and spread out during baking. She chopped up a bar of Nestle chocolate and added the pieces to her cookie dough, creating the first chocolate chip cookies.

Since then, chocolate chips have become a staple ingredient in many baking recipes, from cookies to cakes and beyond. On Chocolate Chip Day, people celebrate this versatile and delicious ingredient by baking and eating all kinds of treats that feature chocolate chips, from classic chocolate chip cookies to more creative desserts like chocolate chip muffins, scones, and even savoury dishes like chocolate chip chilli!

So if you’re a fan of chocolate chips and all the tasty treats they can help create, be sure to mark May 15th on your calendar and join in the celebration of Chocolate Chip Day!
