World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is an annual event celebrated on May 17th to raise awareness about the importance of communication and information technologies (ICTs) in our society. The day was first celebrated in 1969 when the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) established it as an opportunity to mark the founding of the ITU and to focus on the importance of communication and information technologies in our daily lives.

The ITU is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for coordinating global telecommunication networks and services. The organization is dedicated to ensuring that all people have access to affordable and reliable communication technologies, regardless of where they live or their socioeconomic status.
